First post

Hey everyone! You all know Curt from ResponsiBid, I'm sure. I'm part of the ResponsiBid team, and handle writing and some other content creation things for Curt.

I'm going to be participating here and in some of the FB groups, sharing some of the cool stuff that Curt and the rest of our team have learned over the years of being in business. Hopefully there will be some content that's helpful for you, no matter what stage your business is in.

Finally, if you have any ResponsiBid/software questions, I'll be happy to help with that. ResponsiBid is a product that lots of people have heard of, but few people understand all of what it actually does, so I would love to explain more about that, to whoever is interested.

Thanks for having me!

Finally entering NEW territory- Soft Wash Baby!!

Ok, so I know a lot of guys on here have been doing soft wash and surface cleaning for years. I'm reaching out of my comfort zone, and it's the PWRA and WCRA convention in Nashville that has helped me continue to move forward in this direction. A big "Thank you!" To everyone that helped make our trip to Nashville worth it, many of those seminars helped. The contacts made at the convention and the notes I made and the buddies I have all combined.... Priceless! @Chris @Thad @panelessperfection @mrwindow @windowman and many more. Thanks!

These pics are of our first paying soft wash job. Very very happy with how it turned out!

Now I'm thinking I have no choice but to go to DC this year!

Question Spider droppings

I went and looked at a hospital today the sills on the outside were covered in spider droppings. The sills are aluminum and they were black from this. I am writing up a quote and am adding a pretty large price if the customer wants them to be hand scrubbed to totally remove the droppings. I am planning on wfp everything and wrote the quote stating I would brush and rinse the frames and this would remove a lot of the droppings but not all of them if than want all of them gone I need more money. Is this something I should do or give the price including the extra charge and make them look like new?

Hack Your Own Chemical Product

I want to make available to you every chemical, syn-det, superabrasive powder, compositional abrasive, and more that I discover. This is a work in progress to say the least. To begin with I would like to offer the silica powder I use in the SKRUB product. Also some pure glycerin. This way you can come up with some different creations yourself.

As these become available I will list them on my blog. Should do some videos too.

So you can hack your own products. Please tell me what you think about this!

Question Can I use a CRM instead of a bidding software?

I'm looking at bidding software. How does Pro-posel compare to Responsibid?

Is there anything Responsibid has/offers, that Pro-posel doesn't?

Would it work to use Jobber for bids instead of either of the bidding software?

I need a CRM for organizing my customer data base, what do you guys recommend?

Right now I'm just using Quickbooks for estimates and invoicing. It would be nice to see what a bid looks like in both

Check out this January weather.

So I just have to put in my complaint about cleaning windows in January. I mean check out this weather! My truck said it was a bitter 60 degrees out there this morning. I'm just amazed that it's not raining in Oregon. If it could stay like this all year I'd he happy

Winter Survival Tips Please!

Hey guys, this is my first time cleaning through the winter and up until today it's been a battle that I thought I was winning...

I do mostly storefront and so I'm constantly battling with salt on windows. It sticks to my scrubber and then makes it's way into my bucket, and I've noticed that salt in my water leaves nasty powdery steaks. Any tips for avoiding this?

Also, do you guys have any suggestions on alternatives to isypropol alcohol?

My window cleaning brethren, I need winter hacks, please!!!😩😩😩

Another pricing question

Alright so I'm just curious as to how my pricing compares. I bid this job outside only for $300. The back is almost identical to the front and there is only 2 windows on the 2nd floor on the far side not pictured. And I'm not cleaning the dormers on the roof. The rest is as in the pictures. The lady seemed OK with the price but wants to see how it compares when the other bids come in. I'm just curious how that compares, do you guys think I'm high or low?

Question Standard double hung residential windows- methods?

Looking for some feedback on how you tackle the most basic residential double hung windows-

I personally have been starting inside using a 12" strip washer/squeegee, then moving outside and using an 8' a frame ladder and my Ettore 12' extension pole with the same 12" strip washer/squeegee.

I have heard someone tell me that they will do the entire job from inside by flipping the windows in and completing both sides of the panes... Has anyone tried or using this method?

What size squeegee/strip washer? Do you climb or just use a pole? Where do you start and finish?

Any additional feedback is welcome as I am fairly new to the business.

Thanks!

Projected Training Timeline

I would like to get some input from other companies on a projected training timeline, as follows:

In your business, how long does each phase require? What do you feel is a realistic timeline to go from the "new hire" phase to "leadership" phase?

Phase 1

New hire with no experience>functional helper

Phase 2

functional helper>skilled technician, semi-independent

Phase 3

Skilled technician, semi-independent> skilled technician, completely independent

Phase 4

skilled technician, completely independent> skilled technician with leadership responsibilities (ie. crew leader)

so the total development track would go like this:

New hire with no experience>

functional helper>

skilled technician, semi-independent>

skilled technician, completely independent>

skilled technician with leadership responsibilities (ie. crew leader)

does this format roughly fit the track you follow? are there any other significant variables to add?

also, for they guys who do pressure washing as an add-on, or who do mainly pressure washing- i'm interested in how your training timeline looks.

in your reply, make sure to describe what type of business you run (ie. "window cleaning only", "50% windows, 50% pressure washing," "90% storefront" etc.) that will help us compare apples to apples.

Anodised Alu' Frames - product referral please

Looking for something to clean Anodized Aluminum Frames.

Wouldn't normally consider, but it's a very good account I've had for a few years. They are brand new (4 month old window & Alu casing), in pretty good condition, they just want protecting & brightening more than a deep clean.

Need referral of products, especially for protection against sun & sea-salt & a guarantee on life would be helpful.

Thanks :)
