So, I've been working for an older gentleman that is considering selling me his route for a share as he is looking to retire. I've been getting good experience with different sized windows and squeegees, and have been told that my work is very good and that I have a great eye for detail. I've only been doing this for close to a month, so my speed isn't up to par, which is a given. Here's the kicker. I've been slow at everything I do except for skiing (I go straight ;-)). I'd usually be one of the last to finish tests in school... have been told I'm slow on other jobs, and have been let go from an auto detailing job due to my lack of speed. I bust my butt, but still can't seem to keep up with the crew. I'm a perfectionist, and try to get every little speck clean. When my WC mentor tells me I'm slow, I get upset because it makes me feel like I am going to fail. I feel like I will hit a speed plateau, as I'm a bit clumsy. I honestly love fanning windows, but fear that my profits will suffer once I hit my speed and efficiency ceiling. I have no idea how people type so darn quickly on their smartphones. I'm starting to wonder if this is the right industry for me. For now, I figure I will keep practicing to see how much faster I can get without making mistakes. I remember seeing someone's signature saying that "A slow window cleaner is a poor window cleaner". I'm not looking to make millions. Just looking to make a living off of my own business. Some doubts are beginning to creep in.
