Hello everyone,

Hi My name is sean

Ive been a glass cleaning addict for only three months.

I have just began this journey, cleaning my own house, I have no idea how many times, and am currently taking jobs for

family and friends to try and build some experience and speed (efficiency).

Hopefully this passion and dedication will culminate into a business for me..

Wow, its not easy though, and some days it's really difficult to remain positive when I'm getting my butt kicked..

And big thumbs up to the glass cleaning community! You guys are really generous, helping the new guys and supporting your peers. Without all this help (the forum, you tube, ect) I'd be really fumbling around in the dark...........

So hello, and thanks

Sean

Height measuring tool

I have an app on my phone that is supposed to tell me how tall an object is, but it doesn't work very well.

Does home depot, etc sell a laser tool or something that does this? Or has anyone had success with any apps?

Thanks!

When can we get rid of all the "what would you bid?" threads?

It seems like all I see anymore is "what would you price this at?" threads. I challenge all the newbies to get off your lazy butts and figure it out for yourself. Start using a calculator and some yellow legal pads and come up with your own pricing!!

Dirty little secret: ONLY YOU can crunch your own numbers and figure out what YOU need to charge to cover your expenses and ONLY YOU know what you should charge. All the rest is just pure laziness. You know there are a few of us around that started our businesses before the Internet and we learned the hard way, by doing it. Now it seems like the lazy GEN Yer's (or whatever they are going by now) want to jump online and have someone else set their pricing for them. It doesn't work that way. If you wan to be in business then run it like a business and determine your own cost of goods and labor and figure it out for yourself. Quit relying on others to tell you what to charge for your services. How should we know if your brother in law will work all weekend for a case of beer? That's for you to figure out, not us.

If you want a national rate sign up for Responsibid and they'll tell you what the going average is. Please quit posting a couple of pics of that multi story office complex and asking "what should I charge?" Seriously? You call yourself a businessman and can't even decide what to charge a client?

[[[[Rant over]]]]

Sorry if I offended you but seriously? You don't even know how to charge for your services and you call yourself a business owner?

Question Inexperienced pricing for big job!!!

Hey everybody. Got another pricing question. I am new to the window cleaning and really don't do a lot of it but when the jobs present themselves I figure might as well make some extra money. This is a 2 story building with a total of 401 windows. They want outside pricing and inside/outside pricing. Im thinking wfp the top outside? Also something like this it is just me and one employee. Thinking a full day normally with us but since like I said I haven't done much window cleaning maybe 2 days. Any help would be awesome. Thanks ahead of time.

Sound about right?

Just finished up on a job in town. 1,052 windows. Charged $5/window. $5,260 job. Had 4 people working (me included). Worked Saturday from 7am to 10pm and then Sunday from 7am to 1030pm. Paid my guys $15/hour. $750 in labor leaving me with $4510. Does this sound about right for a job that takes so long to complete?? Mind you, since this place did a remodel back in 1998, they say the windows haven't been cleaned once. It showed. Grime on ledges sometimes 2" deep. Had a 18 foot extension ladder on its furthest most reach and just barely able to clean the tops. Skylight windows only available through roof access. Those accounted for 330 of the total window count.

Question Ccu bid question

So I went out to bid a ccu job today. It's all new fixed Double pane pella windows. The contractor has left the blue protective film on both sides of the windows and the painters did an awesome job taping off. So my question is do I price this as a normal ccu or do I just add a little for my time pulling the film off? It's a big house and my normal price for just a cleaning would be $850.

Opps I didn't notice that window was broken...

IMG_20140929_095620.jpg

So I was cleaning a regular customers windows when I didn't notice that the glass was shattered and put my hand thru it.

Only issue was the customer always leaves when I arrive so he had to take my word that I didn't break it as he had not even noticed the glass had broken, there was timber venetian blinds and with that frosted patten I wasn't surprised. It was all good he didn't think I did it and called to have it replaced.

Question When do you get paid?

Hello all, I am currently investigating the most common timeframe you are paid with storefront accounts. I have only ever done residential which seems to mostly get paid as soon as you are completed. The question arises because in my local area I ran into a fellow wc'er who says his company collects right after completion (same as residential)

So what say you wcra forum? When do you collect payment for your storefront accounts?

Werner Multi ladder

I am thinking about buying the Werner 19ft Multi-Purpose ladder. It says that it converts to a 9ft step ladder. Does anyone have this ladder? Are you able to stand at 9ft or is this rating like most of the others, 9ft means you can only stand at 6ft etc.? Are you able to straddle the top of the ladder easily? I have a small car and a big job lined up and I think this is the only ladder that I can fit in my car that will be suitable for the high interior glass. Big picture windows at 10-12. Or I may just have to pole them with the Unger Indoor pad on a WFP. Then again I am not sure about the ladder inside as the house has hardwood floors.

What service helps your business the most?

There are a few businesses that claim that their service will increase revenue, which ones work for your business and why?

That is a list that came too mind and I may be missing one.

The reason for the thread isn't to pick on any one of them but it seems there are more options for companies to charge a monthly fee and they all have promise. Curious to see what is working and what is not.
