Smoothie King Center, NOLA

Hey Guys,

Just picked up the Smoothie King Center, right next to the SuperDome, (they call it the Little Dome), tons of Glass.

The head guy was impressed at what we accomplished on their Glass. The sections that are 40 ft above the floor and are flat glass panes, can be seen by all of the suites, and they literally had about 1/2 inch of dust sitting on them. We had to vacuum up all of the glass before we could clean it.

Probably one of the toughest jobs my company has done in a long time, but it should turn out to be super profitable, and will probably lead to the big brother building right next door.

Window Cleaning Baby! Thats where it's at!!

How do you get tech inventions into the the right hands in our industry?

Do any of you know where to go with innovations for our industry? Also, how do you explain some ideas to the right people without giving up your intellectual property or ability to profit from them?

The ones I'm referring to are related to water fed pole cleaning btw, if that helps.

Finger Tip Protectors

OK. So now I have cracks on four fingertips! This "northern vortex" has given me a LOT of pain. I'm going to check out this product.

CVS Rubber Finger Protectors Value Pack - CVS.com

Put some hand cream on my fingertips, slip on a tip protector, sleep on it, and maybe feel better in the morning. Maybe wear them under my Alaskan Mitts. I might even try something like this for the spring summer and fall.

We NEED protection!

CWC Pro himod 55 pole vs Gardiner Super Lite Xtreme 55

Does anyone have any experience with the CWC high modular carbon fiber poles? They aren't talked about here for obvious reasons, but the specs look really good for the price. I'm not always one to buy the cheapest so I thought I'd ask if anyone here has any experience with them. The specs are most similar to the Gardiner Super Lite Xtreme 55 (45 plus two #10 extensions). They both achieve the same weight by tapering the sections so they only clamp in 3 spots. The collapsed length of the CWC is much longer (92"), perhaps due to the huge gooseneck that comes standard, but at $700 less than the Gardiner it is intriguing. The CWC can be broken down to make smaller poles (albeit too long for 1st story), and both can be extended beyond 55' with additional parts. Neither are sold here but I hope an honest conversation is still welcome.

Also I'll try to attach a spreadsheet I made attempting a comparison with all the "high modular" poles available. Let me know if I'm missing any entirely.

getting spots off chrome/stainless

Hello everyone, i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to remove spots from chrome/stainless bathroom grab bars. we clean a few commercial bathrooms for a cellular store along with their windows. We clean, and spray a disinfectant on the fixtures but ive noticed that the grab bars are spotted, thinking from foam disinfectant possibly. Anything that would remove? thanks in advance!

My friend prints 1" buttons along with doing all of my apparel for uniforms. So I'm gonna give these a shot while out doing prospective storefront/commercial sales... It's a little something to stand out from just leaving a business card that gets overlooked.

Question What kind of channel/rubber do you use?

I've tried Ettore rubber (seemed to be to soft) Pulex, unger, stecone, the stuff with 3 stars as the logo (I don't know what it's called) and I can't seem to find something that will work. What do you use for rubber, in what kind of channel do you use the rubber?

Yesterday I had a job I tried using my wide bodied Sorbo channel with an Unger Ninja handle and it didn't even pull the water off the window, it just smeared the water around. The rubber looked fine, tips were a bit worn, but that's beside the point. It's as if it somehow was riding on the ends of the channel and the middle didn't even touch the glass.

I'm still a newbie and need help! On deep ledges when I go to close out the channel will skip (no matter what type of squeegee I'm using whether wide or normal.) And I think it's because the handles get caught on the ledge. So I have to go back with a 6" channel without a handle and close out that way... It sucks. How do you cope with deep interior ledges? what tips or tricks do you use to close out smoothly?

50 shades of window cleaning

In 20 years of window cleaning the weirdest thing I ever experienced was a house wife answering the door in lingere wanting me and my employee to hit it and quit it. We passed. However I've been doing a clients home now for over 2 years. Extreemly wealthy. Home has to be 2 mill or more they have me do it 4 x a year and it runs about $800 each time. Very nice couple guys in his 60s wife early 50s pretty hot. They have always been nice. Well this time she was extreemly flirty with me, I mean really really flirty. And in front of her husband to the point I was a little uncomfortable. When I was done she told me to charge her husband $2,000 for the window wash. I explained it was only $800 like in the past. But she insisted that I charge him $2,000 and if he complained she wanted me to put him in his place, berate him and make sure he paid me the $2,000. I explained I really wasn't comfortable doing that. She gave me $500 in cash and said if I didn't do it it would be the last time I washed their windows. Any ways I left with a check for $2,000 and $500 in cash. She called last week and wants the window s washed once a month. Any advice. I mean it's $24,000 a year for 12 days worth of work. Any one else ever have anything like this happen

How are you guys handling this cold?

We have washed every weekday through this winter. It has been the consistently coldest winter I can remember and the lows have been the worst I have ever washed in. One day I was out washing, wearing good gear so I wasn't too bad off, but man my hands would only last 10 minutes before they were really hurting. We stock the Ice Bay gloves. I have really liked the heavy duty Gauntlet from Youngstown but I didn't have those with me the days I was out with the teams. We also shifted into using a strong methanol mix to keep from creating sheets of ice on windows. We normally would be fine with the regular car window washer fluid. Not this year. Any hints and tips from this winter?

Thanks guys

First Feedback : POWER and CONTROL Ergonomic Handles

ImageUploadedByWindow Cleaning Resource1425038179.366490.jpg

Hi Perry

Got on well with the handles.

It's like using a wood plane immediately felt less stress through my core.

I've been suffering with repetitive strain in my right hand ✋.

So noticed a real difference not having to grip the pole so tight now I've got the handles.

Due to a hedge right in the way we rigged up a kind of leaver system with a scaffolding nuckle on an aluminium pole to push pole away from wall middway enabling brush to make contact with the glass.

Floors 7 and 6 were pretty tough but down on the 5th the power and Control handles after a bit of fun adjusting were just brilliant.

Like the adjustment to the top end fitting from metal to plastic with the groove cut to tip.

Also glad to have the arrows made of harder plastic good one Perry.!

hello from oz

Hi everyone, I'm Rach from Perth, Western Australia. What a fantastic forum! I've learned so much in the last couple of days of lurking... thought I should get around to introducing myself.

I'm currently taking very first steps towards starting my own window cleaning business. I work for a company as a builders cleaner (I'm the window girl) and I love the work, love my colleagues, but the pay is terrible. I am doing some residential work in my spare time and starting to think about a business name, getting insurance, advertising... etc. It's a little overwhelming, but exciting at the same time. I can see this forum will be a valuable resource for me as I transition from working for the man, to being my own boss. Cheers, Rachael

Question High French Windows

One of the things being a fairly new single proprietor is learning what jobs to say no to. On those big century old homes nearby, the upper sash on the double hung windows some have 9, some as many as 15 squares of glass in them. It's the high ones I have trouble with. Higher than my ladder reaches [which is high as I want to climb anyway] so I need to use a pole. They've been neglected, drops of paint, overspray. Trying to get the right angle for the scraper and putting enough pressure on it so it does some good at the end of a 20 foot pole gives spotty results. Plus it misses the bottom inch of glass. How do you handle those windows? Is there a way to scrub them with something like Brillo? Or do you tell the owner: can't do it, and recommend a window cleaner who can get face to glass and do a proper job of it. Many thanks for your input.

Marketing Residential Cold Calling

Hey guys, first post here.

I've done a bunch of research on this forum regarding my topic but unfortunately being under 10 posts, I can't pm anybody who solicits it. I live in Canada, where window cleaning is only practically available half the year, so I do it as a profitable summer job.

I want cold calling to work for me but so far I've had no luck, calling middle class neighborhoods between 4-6PM. My pitch is as follows: Hey my names ___ I’m calling from _____ Window Cleaning, we’re offering free professional window cleaning quotes for the Spring, would you happen to be interested?

Any feedback or advice would be much appreciated!
